PDF/A-1 is a final-state file format for the end users and long-term preservation of the document as disseminated to users. PDF/A-1 standard has two levels of conformance;
PDF/A-1a (Portable Document Format/Archive, version 1 Accessible), that satisfies all requirements in the specification;
PDF/A-1b(Portable Document Format/Archive, version 1 Basic), which is a lower level of conformance, "encompassing the requirements of this part of ISO 19005 regarding the visual appearance of electronic documents, but not their structural or semantic properties."

Description of formats

DWG

DWG is a compact binary file format with closed-source software for containing 2D and 3D design data and metadata in a highly compressed form. DWG is appropriate for storing large design files but makes them difficult to use without special software.

Closed-source (antonym for open source) software is proprietary or non-copyrighted software.

Primary used for creating the design drawings and models, deriving renderings in 2D or 3D, and collaboration among architects and engineers designing, constructing, and maintaining buildings.

PDF (Portable Document Format)

The universal file format to preserve the fonts, images, and layout of the original document on many platforms or any apps they were created. PDF is compatible with all major platforms, compact and supports digital signature technology. PDF was first standardized as ISO 32000 in 2008.
